Movie Event: On Saturday evening, the 25th of October, we will show the 2003 movie Luther. This would be a good event to invite friends to as it provides a the historical background to one of the most important events in church history which has had a major impact on the world as we know it.
There is also a good introduction to key aspects of the Christian faith. On Sunday the 26th,  Nello Barbieri will follow this up by preaching on the topic Why Protestant? This will be particularly helpful for those who may not understand the importance of the issues which compelled people to break away from the church of Rome in the 1500s.

DDT@EPC: In June we announced that we were creating a Deeper Discipleship Training program which will be provide practical courses for Christian living and ministry. We are developing a program that will be repeated on a 3 year cycle.

1st ) The first training module will be a two week Reading the Bible in Public course on the 12th and 19th of October at 3:30pm. This is a required training module for readers on the roster.

2nd ) The second module will be a four session DVD presentation, Four Truths that Changed the World, to be held on the last four Sunday evenings of November. This series on Grace, Faith, Christ and the Bible will be a combination of history and Bible teaching on the core distinctives of the Christian faith.

Men’s Event: A Men’s Breakfast will be held on November 8th.  Please put this date in your diary. Rev Martin De Pile, a Presbyterian chaplain who has completed two tours of Iraq, will be our special guest speaker. You can also start thinking about who you might like to invite.

Bibles For The Persecuted: Once again, during the month of October, we will participate in 21 Days of Prayer for persecuted Christians. The goal is to pray for them using the prayer diaries provided by the Bible League and to put aside $1 each day to raise money for Bibles. Not only is this a good opportunity to pray for other who suffer for their commitment to Jesus, but it also helps deepen our own faith as we read about what they have to endure. While we will officially start on the 5th of October, the diaries and money boxes will be available to collect next week.

Bibles for CRE: The CRE teachers at Eltham East Primary School had committed to supplying every child with a Bible but expected funding is now not available. There is an offering box on the front table for anyone who might like to make a donation to help them purchase Bibles.

Container Appeal:  Extra handouts with information for the September container appeal for Malawi are available on the front table. Time is short, so please give some thought to this as soon as possible. Thank you.

Doulos: The Doulos which takes the Gospel to ports around the world will be in Geelong this month, 12th- 28th of September. This is the oldest ocean-going passenger ship and tours are available if you book in advance. Pick up a fliers for more information.

Operation Christmas Child Boxes: Carissa will hold one more stall after church next Sunday, the 28th, where you can purchase everything you need to fill a box.  Collection Sunday is October 19th.  Please bring your box/ex to church on that day.  Thank you to Carissa for all her hard work in organising things for our church, and to everyone who is participating in this wonderful ministry.

Catering Committee: Thank you to Maxine and Maggie for several years of faithful ministry on the Catering Committee. They have both decided it is time for a change and Sharee Barnett has kindly agreed to take over this role for the remainder of the year. She is the contact person in matters pertaining to food supplies for morning tea and other events held in the hall. It is useful for committees who are planing to have special events that will involve meals to consult with Sharee to avoid purchasing things we already have.

Church Camp 2009: When our church started sending teams to Malawi, it was decided that our church camp would change from being an annual event to one that was held every other year.   The next one is scheduled for Friday, February 20th - Sunday, February 22nd, 2009, at the CYC campsite at Phillip Island (the venue of our last camp).  If you would like to be on a camp organising committee, please talk to Anne Elliott.  It would be great to have four or five people to work on this.
