General News

Updated
07-03-10
PYV Date Change: Please note that the date for the Volley Tournament has been changed to the 10th of April due to an administrative error by Volleyball Victoria.

Elder Apprenticeships: The Session has decided to offer a 6-8 month apprenticeship to those who have done the eldership training a few years ago but are still undecided as to whether they are ready to stand for eldership elections. The goal is to give them on-the-job experience as they consider the next step. David Graham and Andrew Sprague have agree to undergo this apprenticeship. They will be required to sign a strict confidentiality agreement in line with Session rules. Also, in line with the general rules, if anyone has any serious objections to either of these men as not being suitable to serve this apprenticeship, please notify Don or Rob Herweynen no later than March 15th.

Malawi Container: Thank you to those who contributed to the shipping costs of the second container for Malawi.  The full amount has been raised – a great testimony to the churches in Victoria who answered to call for funds.  We raised $325.

50th Celebrations – 28th March: 90 invitations have been sent out already. There will be a special morning tea that day.  If you can help with providing food or serving, please talk to Nola Hawkes or Maxine Fowler.  If you have photos from the past that could be displayed please talk to Peter Huggett. Peter plans to be at the church between 2-4pm on the 27th to get them ready for viewing.

Men’s Convention: This year’s Men’s Convention is May 21st -22nd . The theme is The Gospel: Know it, Live it, Tell it. Once again we have booked the Master’s Manor and accommodation. More details on how to sign up will follow soon. Flyers are available on the foyer table.

L’Abri: The Victorian branch of L’Abri is holding a one day seminar at Darrel and Wendy Reeve’s home on the 27th of March. L’Abri specialises in talking about how we can live intelligently in this world with a consistent Christian world view. See the flyer on the table for more details.  Numbers are limited and RSVP date is Mar 23rd.

Challenging Atheism: The Global Atheist Convention will be held in Melbourne next weekend.  Creation Ministries International is holding a free multi-session afternoon conference at the 900-seat auditorium of Life Ministry Centre in Chirnside on Sunday the 14th, 2:00 - 7:00 pm.  It is titled: Countering the Rise of Atheism: The Evidence for Creation. More information is on the flyer in the hall.

Next DDT: Next Sunday is the start of our Preaching Workshop but if a number of those intending to come would really like to go to the ‘atheism’ event, we can delay the start for a week. Please talk to Don today.

Parking:
Please remember to park only on the church side as the road is too narrow for easy flow of traffic when there are cars parked on both sides. It is very important that you do not park too close to people’s driveways as it makes it hard for them to get out and is a cause of some aggravation. If you are a regular and able bodied, please make sure you try the Swim School first and leave Batman Road for visitors and those less able to walk longer distances. Our new car park is close to being ready for use so please stayed tuned.
